Peonies are are a beautiful flower and come in so many different colors, which are locally available from the late May to middle of June. I have grown them in my garden for years and when I tell people that they make lovely arrangements for home as well as beautiful flowers for weddings work, their comment is “what about all the ants that are hiding in the flowers.” Well the secret is to pick them early in the bud to half open stage any then they do not have ants.

Flowers are a key element to the wedding reception, and creative arrrangements can be done on a budget. An example of an inexpensive arrangement would be using vary varieties of hostas and the blooms for a dramatic centerpiece. Hostas can be inserted in a vase to disguise the stems, and are a fantastic accent other flowers in arrangements. Hosta leaves can be curled and used for a simple arrangement with calla flowers. Hostas come in so many different sizes, shapes and textures that they are a statement by themselves.

Orchids do not just have to sit on your counter any more, they make for a great wedding flowers. They can used as centerpieces for your reception or integrated into a bridal bouquet. For this spring wedding in Kalamazoo, Michigan, we used green orchids in all of bridal bouquets and the groomsman boutonnieres along Green Tea rose and hydrangeas. Even though orchids seem delicate they are long lasting flower and make for an ideal wedding flowers at any time of the year.

Summer Wedding Flowers

Rhinestones can be added to most bridal bouquet to add interest and sparkle. Crystal rhinestones were added to the center of Charlotte Roses, along with Star Gazer lilies from my garden. Selecting the right color combination is often a challenge. So I often recommend using white in the bouquet to make the flowers stand out. This bride chose to carry a cascade style bouquet, as opposed to the more popular Martha Stewart handheld. The cascade style bouquet has really become very popular with brides this year.

Bridal Bouquets

The Bride’s bouquet is generally considered the focal point of your wedding floral presentations. This bouquet speaks volumes about your values, wants, dreams, life-style and much more. The bouquet can range from a few stems of calla lilies to an elegant regal cascading floral presentation. The selection of floral material will be exactly what the bride (and sometimes her mother) envisions.

From the chapel, to the reception hall, to the wedding cake, there should be a coordinated, well-orchestrated, floral presentation. At Floral Creations by Sharon, we work with the bride and her wedding cake bakery to ensure there is a tasteful integration of reception elements that enhance the total experience.
